Monument Avenue: General Demotion/General Devotion

Storefront for Community Design, in partnership with VCU’s School of the Arts, is hosting a design competition to shape the future of Richmond. Called Monument Avenue: General Demotion/General Devotion, the competition asks participants to reconsider Monument Avenue’s role as a historic urban boulevard, its viability as a 5.4 mile interurban connector, its presence in Richmond given the city’s emergence as a diverse and progressive city, and its significance in the history of the United States and in the current debate about Confederate statues in public spaces.

We’re looking for entrants, and any help we can get to spread the word would be great. That’s why we wanted to share the opportunity with AIGA RVA, in case any members might be interested in participating. (There will be $10,000 in total prize money.)

Please reach out to me or monument@storefrontrichmond.org with any questions. And if you know any big thinkers, creative designers, or thought-provoking artists, send ‘em our way!
