The Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission (JLARC) is seeking a highly analytical and creative individual to serve as the agency’s information graphics designer. The primary function of this position will be to develop graphics that effectively communicate research findings and key messages to the General Assembly, stakeholders, and the public. JLARC’s information graphics designer will work with policy analysts to distill technical data into understandable graphics for print, presentations, and the web.

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in information or data design, data visualization, graphic design, visual communication, or a related discipline. At least three years of information design experience is required, preferably related to public policy.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate the following technical expertise:

• Information design;
• Adobe Illustrator, including variable data graphing functions, and InDesign;
• Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
• Industry standards for typography and color for print and web; and
• Print, digital design, and layout of multi-page products.

Candidates must also possess the following skills and abilities:

• Creative design skills;
• Strong conceptual ability and analytical skills to transform complex data into
• clear and concise tables, maps, and other visualizations for policy makers;
• Ability to balance multiple assignments simultaneously;
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, and ability to work
• with deadlines subject to frequent change;
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse team; and
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
